Since their initial releases in the fall of 2020, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have taken the world by storm. As two of the most sought-after consoles in history, it’s hardly surprising that video game developers have been frantically working to bring their flagship titles to both next-gen consoles. In the fast-moving world of game development, it’s a case of adapt or die.
As both revolutionary consoles become more commonplace, the number of titles available for eager gamers to play grows with each passing month. Here then, are some of the fantastic games that are being made available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S over the coming weeks that you should be on the lookout for.
Monark – February 22nd
Coming to the PlayStation 5, Monark is the latest title in the celebrated genre of Japanese role-playing games. With a slick goth aesthetic, it certainly differentiates itself within the already niche sub-genre.
The game is set at the Shin Mikado academy in Japan – a reasonably normal school that’s thrown into turmoil when it’s suddenly surrounded by a pearlescent barrier that won’t allow anything in or out of the area. The school starts filling with a strange mist and any student or faculty member unlucky enough to spend too much time in the fog is driven mad.
Slated for release on the 22nd of February, it looks set to offer a JRPG experience quite unlike another. Winning big at the casino is very much like winning big in video games – it’s all about strategy. For the best online roulette strategies click here.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen – February 22nd
The next expansion of Destiny 2 drops later this month, where players will be facing down the cunning Hive goddess Savathun and her newly empowered army of Hive Lightbearers in her Throne World.
According to GamesRadar, The Witch Queen will add a big campaign, a new Raid within a pyramid ship, and even more weapons – including the new Glaive special weapon type. The Witch Queen will also introduce a new weapon crafting system and quality-of-life changes, while the launch of Season 16 will revamp the existing Void Subclasses with Aspects and Fragments like Stasis.
Elden Ring – February 25nd
The long-awaited collaboration between From Software and Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin is coming out at the end of this month. Coming from the studio that gave the world the Dark Souls franchise, the hype is justified, with several critics already drawing comparisons between the two.
Available on PS5, Xbox Serie X, Xbox One and PS4, it could turn out to be one of the year’s biggest fantasy releases – should sales figures match the expectations of the studio and developers. However, it is worth noting that on the PC version, the minimum required specifications to play the game will create a slight barrier to entry for some.
WWE 2K22 – March 11th
March is seemingly a very good month for sports titles, as just 11 days in, fans in the US and Europe will be treated to the release of WWE 2K22. Following a year-long hiatus, the franchise is officially returning to store shelves and will land on next-gen consoles for the very first time.
Slightly disappointing sales led to the series being temporarily cancelled last year, much to the dismay of wrestling fans everywhere. However, bringing 2K22 to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S appears to have breathed new life into the franchise.
Bucking the usual trend of an October release, the title has plenty going for it, boasting new controls, 3,400 new animations, updated graphics and a redesigned engine. Can it return with a bang? Only time will tell.
