Daily and Monthly Contact Lenses: The Differences

Contact lenses are medical devices that are applied directly to the surface of the eyes to correct most visual defects, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. The principle of operation is the same as glasses but, compared to the latter, contact lenses offer many advantages both visually and aesthetically. Today there are so many variants of contact lenses and thanks to Internet technology, everyone can now buy contact lenses online. Of course this will save them a lot of time.

First of all, since they are positioned directly on the cornea, the lenses allow you to have a more natural and 360 ° vision. There will therefore be no distortions in size and depth, as happens in the case of glasses due to their distance from the eyes. Therefore, peripheral vision will also be far better than that provided by glasses, since lenses naturally follow the movement of the eyes.

Contact lenses are also particularly suitable and effective when you want to play sports, especially in the case of swimming and running. Unlike glasses, which tend to move and move continuously, the lenses will remain stable even with sudden movements and in any position you move your head.

The discomfort caused by certain climatic conditions should not be underestimated. Those who often wear glasses are familiar with the situation in which, in winter, one enters a closed room and immediately fogs up one’s glasses. A similar situation often occurs on rainy days when the lenses of the glasses get completely wet, obscuring the view. With contact lenses, on the other hand, you won’t notice any difference in cold or rainy weather.

In general, contact lenses are far more comfortable to wear than glasses because, unlike glasses, they do not rest long on the nose and do not exert any pressure on the temples. Many people also find them more aesthetically pleasing and less noticeable than glasses. This is especially true for very severe cases of nearsightedness or presbyopia, for which glasses with very thick lenses are needed that make the eyes too small or enlarge. There are very different contact lenses on the market: let’s see the main types of contact lenses.

The types

Contact lenses are distinguished mainly on the basis of the time span for which they can be used. They are therefore divided into two macro categories: daily and monthly. There is also a type of fortnightly lenses on the market, therefore a middle ground in terms of duration between disposable and monthly, although it is still a much rarer category than the first two. Below we will describe the technical characteristics of the two most common types, together with the advantages and disadvantages that each entails.

Contact lenses for every day

Also called disposable, daily contact lenses last exactly 24 hours, after which they must be thrown away and replaced with a new pair. This type of lenses is extremely soft and comfortable to wear, but above all easy to use: just remove them from the package and apply them directly on the eyes. Consequently, there will be no need to use a lens case or any additional solutions of various kinds in which to immerse the lenses. From this it is clear that the maintenance of this type is not contemplated, since, once used, the lenses will simply be thrown away. This advantage is also reflected in the hygienic aspect since, by not having to store the lenses in a container after use, the risk of the formation of germs and bacteria is reduced to zero.

Monthly contact lenses

This category of contact lenses, as the name suggests, can be used for 30 days. This means that, at the end of the day, the lenses will be cleaned and stored in the appropriate container-case. Maintenance must be taken very seriously for this type of lenses, in order to avoid the proliferation of germs that can cause very serious eye infections.
